All I know is that instance defederation on lemmy has a similar error. Sometimes communities are still visible as “artifacts” (not often though).

For example blahaj defederated from lemmygrad one year ago, but I can still view [email protected] (but posts from after the defederation don’t show up)

And for example I can still see posts and comments from @[email protected] before defederation.

What I mean is I can’t see any of their posts they’ve made in a shitjustworks instance since their ban from my instance, even though my instance is federated with shitjustworks

Really interesting that MAU number has been declining for past 3 months, but number of posts and comments has been balooning.

But why would a user for example: @[email protected] who is instance banned from my home instance, have their last posts available to be seen by me from 7 months ago (right before their ban), but if I look at their profile from my LW alt, I can see they have a bunch of newer posts.

It’s almost like their new posts are “defederated” from my home instance.

The posts they make are in a federated community with my home instance. I’d bet if they replied to this comment, I wouldn’t see their reply. (assuming this comment is even visible to them).

My experience is a little better with comments sorted by “top” instead of “active”. “active” seems to promote controversial comments because they get the most replies.

Yep, though the alternatives are not quite there yet software wise, but MBin and Piefed aren’t that far behind…

To be honest except on things like sports and politics, reddit kind of feels like a ghosttown too. So many posts with huge amounts of upvotes and like 2 bot generated comments. The power commenter types seem to have left after the exodus and been replaced by lots of people who scroll and like but don’t really venture much into comments.

Main reason is people are too lazy to change their ways and don’t want to feel like they’ve been making the wrong choice all along.

Bluesky uses ATprotocol not ActivityPub, therefore it’s not considered part of the fediverse.

I wanna check out the fediverse blogging platforms, they seem interesting. Which one would you recommend? I looked at writefreely but it seems that none of the instances let you post as many blogs as you want unless you pay?

Also, is anyone working a fediverse IMDB/letterboxed alternative that uses OMDB dataset? Perhaps a Bookwyrm fork could make it not too hard to start.

Loops is currently a one man operation and I imagine TOS was the last thing they were worried about.

People on lemmy downvote anything it’s actually really harmful to the user experience.

Like a completely harmless post into a niche hobbyist community is often downvoted because a couple people on all decided to downvote it for no apparent reason.

Bluesky started off as mainly a community of comic artists.

Mastodon seems more heavy on “furry” stuff.

Maybe they are trying to get enough hype so it doesn’t end up being completely that way.

Communities only federate to an instance once someone from the instance has subscribed to the community.

What’s nice about here is even if you post an engaging post in a completely dead tiny community it still has the potential to get quite big since lots of people browse via all.
