I’ll say. Us little specialties are still safe for now (big data in my case) but we’re probably the first to go once these models get just a bit better. Not fun stuff.

There is no home-user need to run bitlocker. There’s dozens of alternatives, that do not rely on TPM, that are just as effective, and that you really should be using anyways since they aren’t controlled by M$.
I think in this case it’s not exceptionally nefarious, just greedy. They’ll save boatloads of money (and be able to centralize their facilities) if these reactors get approved, instead of being forced to pay to upgrade the municipal infrastructure because of the terrific strain they’re placing on it. A massive power source, all for them? Hot diggity.
Congrats, you got the joke!
Tbh we probably already have that. Five Eyes is wildly held to control 50% of the TOR nodes, bitcoin cant be that much less of a priority.
This seems… idk, ideal? Lets use our cleanest & most energy dense means of power generation for our most frivolously expanding waste of energy. Unless we give microsoft authority over the DOE, which we aren’t (maybe IBM tho, they seem like they can be trusted…), I’m not really seeing a downside to this.
It’s all fun and games until a Microsoft Purity Enforcement squad is kicking in your door.
Its basically a template generator, which is really helpful when you’re generating boilerplate. It doesn’t save me much if any time to refactor/fill in that template, but it does save some mental fatigue that I can then spend on much more interesting problems.
It’s a niche tool, but occasionally quite handy. Without leaps forward technically though, it’s never going to become more than that.
That… this doesn’t change anything, because he vetoed it, so it’s not a requirement for anyone?
Its incredibly depressing how popular “Creative Writing: The Subreddit” has become.
(Not sure if I’m being whoosh’d, but just in case: “Prior art” is the legal term for a precedent that something was in use prior to being patented, and is the primary means of fighting software patent troll shit like nintendo is trying to pull here)
The development of ACP_196 did use AI for huge portions of the raw sequencing and simulation, for what thats worth…
Microsoft already works on nuclear stewardship + the NIF, how much worse could it possibly be?
Probably they mean the way “AI” is presented to the public / investors. Most things that claim to be “AI” aren’t, they’re just regular boring ol’ software, and even those things that do use AI are usually just using them for one tiny facet that doesn’t actually require them.
There’s potential for some incredible advances in AI right now, but outside of some novelty examples we really haven’t figured out what it’s actually useful for quite yet. It’s one of the more interesting questions in the field.

Well heck, that really is a much better retort. Well said.
Enjoy your sense of smug superiority, I guess…?
At the risk of sounding like the kind of edgelord I was calling out initially: Who?
No, seriously, that show was off the air before I was born. I only know what you’re talking about because of this cliche’d line, I’ve never seen the show or anything. Has there really not been anything in the 23 years since they bulldozed his neighborhood that is wholesome enough to guilt me with? Has society really stagnated that much? Is your sense of decorum only anchored by a largely forgotten children’s television show?
And we’re all very impressed.
Pretty much this. How many artists did you follow on, say, reddit? There were so few on there, and those that were there mainly linked to alternate social media and just used reddit to get engagement. Lemmy is probably the most approachable activitypub interface (we all remember trying to find the damn content on mastadon/bluesky…) and it’s just not big or established enough to be worth trusting. Hopefully that will start changing soon as more people hop over from the myriad other sites, we seem to be past the critical point for new users, but it just takes time.
